Frequently Asked Questions
What is IVF?
IVF, or in vitro fertilisation, refers to the fertilisation of a female egg with male sperm occurring outside of the body. The female patient has self-administered injections for approximately 2 weeks to encourage the growth of more than one egg where possible. The response to this stimulation is monitored with blood tests and ultrasounds. A minor day surgery procedure will be undertaken to collect the eggs. The eggs are then fertilised with sperm to create an embryo. The embryo is later returned, or transferred, back into the woman’s uterus in a procedure called an embryo transfer. A blood test is performed approximately 10 days later to determine if the treatment has been successful.
How much does it cost?
All our main IVF services are Bulk Billed. The only out of pocket expenses for our patients are some PBS co-payments on the IVF drugs to the pharmacy, a $690 day surgery fee paid to the Day Surgery, and a $200 fee to the anaesthetist. The day surgery and anaesthetist fee are often covered if you have private health insurance.
We are upfront about all our costs, and you will not be hit with any additional hidden fees. Our costs are explained with you in detail prior to starting any fertility treatment, so you will always be aware of your financial commitment to your IVF journey.
Why is Connect IVF so much cheaper than all other IVF Clinics?
Connect IVF is not a “low cost” IVF option, it is a low profit margin service. We believe that IVF services should be available to any Australian couple who wants to bring a child into their family. We have made every effort to bulk bill as much of the IVF journey, so that you do not face financial burdens when families need all the help they can get. But this does not mean we compromise on quality of service or fertility options; we just do not charge an arm and a leg to give you the absolute best chance of having a baby. We use the best performing and well proven therapies, protocols, medications and techniques, so our quality of service is second to none.
Is your quality as good as high cost IVF units?
We have highly experienced IVF Specialists, embryologists and IVF nurses who maintain the highest standards to ensure the best possible results in the safest setting. All our equipment is brand new, state of the art, with no-expense-spared and our Specialists and Embryologists use the latest proven techniques to maximise the likelihood of success. Our on-site laboratory is fully accredited with the Fertility Society of Australia.
Do I need a referral to make an appointment with the IVF Clinic Specialist?
Yes. However, our Connect IVF GP will provide you with a specialist referral following the initial pathology & diagnostic imaging tests if you are suitable for fertility treatment.
What is the process?
The couple will need to attend between 2 and 3 consultations with a Connect IVF GP. Your Connect IVF GP will refer the couple for blood tests and other investigations (such as semen analysis) to ensure your suitability for fertility treatment. The GPs will review all results, with each couple. Following the GP visits, the couple will be referred to a Connect IVF Specialist who will discuss your fertility treatment options and determine with you the best treatment path. Prior to the specialist and nurse consultation, you will be provided with more detailed information to inform and assist the couple in their fertility journey. You will have ample opportunity to ask questions before incurring costs or undertaking any procedures.
For more information please visit our website or call to speak with a Patient Advocate. If you wish to review the GP and Specialist profiles you can do so on the Connect IVF website.
